Winnie Harlow, a 25-year old Canadian model of Jamaican extraction, an activist for the rights of people with vitiligo, became a new face of the Tommy Hilfiger brand. The brand, whose DNA is inextricably linked with the idea of a real American classic, for the first time ever, has chosen the model with the most unusual appearance you can imagine for its blue-red-white polo and sweatshirts – the one-of-a-kind beauty represents clothes that everyone in America wears. Or is she not alone? The message put across by the most American of all American designers is quite simple, i.e. we are all different and none of us is like somebody else. Sometimes this leaps to the eye, sometimes it’s hardly noticeable. But, somehow or other, everyone has to fight for his dignity and victory comes to those who believe in themselves. Winnie Harlow told our publication about what she loves, about Tommy Hilfiger and those who helped her not to fall during a difficult time.

AR: What are your favorite pieces in the Tommy Icons capsule collection and why?

Winnie Harlow: I love the his-for-hers Oxford shirt. It’s sexy but relaxed and feels like I could wear it during the day and out with my friends.

AR: What are the fashion essentials you cannot live without?

Winnie Harlow: A great pair of heels and gold jewelry. I love timeless pieces that you can wear every season because they never go out of style.

AR: Who inspires you and why?

Winnie Harlow: My mom is a huge inspiration to me. Growing up, she always encouraged me to chase my dreams and never stopped believing in me.

AR: What is your first memory of TOMMY HILFIGER?

Winnie Harlow: My mom used to force me to wear turtlenecks all winter long which I hated, but I only did enjoy it when I got to wear my TOMMY HILFIGER turtlenecks. They made being warm in Canadian winters cool.
