Today, on December 29, 2020, the greatest French fashion designer Pierre Cardin passed away at the age of 98. This is reported by Le Figaro with reference to the couturier's family.

Pierre Cardin is originally from Italy, but when he was two years old, the family moved to France, where he began his career as a fashion designer. In the 1940s, Cardin worked in the fashion houses of Jeanne Paquin, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Christian Dior. Pierre Cardin participated in the creation of the famous collection "New Look" by Christian Dior.

In 1950, Pierre Cardin founded his own fashion house. He invented collarless jackets (such as The Beatles wore) and became one of the creators of the "cosmic" style of clothing. In the late 1950s, Cardin was one of the first fashion designers to launch a ready-to-wear line, which is why he was temporarily excluded from the French Haute Couture Syndicate. Pierre Cardin was very much loved by Russian people because the fashion designer visited the USSR more than 30 times, which is why in France he was even called "the red couturier". The fashion designer was friends with Maya Plisetskaya and created costumes for her for the ballets "Anna Karenina", "The Seagull", "The Lady with the Dog". In the late 1980s, Cardin established the production of his clothes in the USSR, and in 1991 he held a show on Red Square.
